BEES!!! 05/29/2009

A few days ago we noticed something hanging in a bush behind the house; after getting closer, we see it's a huge knot of BEES!  Fortunately they were honeybees and not agressive.  They had formed a mass about the size of a basketball and it was fairly difficult to restrain the urge to poke it and see what happens, :).  They hung out until the next afternoon and then were gone.  Also found a cute little tree frog underneath the bush the same day; how cool is that?

Ol' Joe is head-over-heels over our neighbor, Allie.  Here are a few shots I got while they were bonding this weekend, and on their first ride:

Late last night we were awakened by some friends who wondered if we were missing some horses; seems there were some found roaming the highway.  They weren't ours, but since we have a sturdy corral with barn access, we took them in.  We are working today to find out where they belong and what the next step is; the dark one, a mare, is in good body condition but has some front feet issues; the light one, a gelding, really needs some groceries and maybe arthritis meds.  And something about that dark mare just screams 'pregnant', lol!  We should know more this afternoon.  Meanwhile, here are a few quick shots of the beauties:

Edit---- The owner has been located and came to pick up her babies this evening.  It was a pleasure meeting you, and if you ever need anything, just let us know!

Our little Spikey left for his new home this morning.  As usual, he loaded like a dream; I'm sure he will be a perfect fit with Rosie and Dana, his new mommies.  And I've been promised plenty of pictures and updates.  We're really going to miss him; he was such a smart, sweet little guy, and gorgeous to boot.  So goodbye, little Spikey, we'll see you again someday!
