Justin's Story, page 2
Early spring and starting to shed. Packing on a few groceries, too!
Had the vet x-ray his feet to check for founder; prognosis was good. The weird looking stuff in the toe is actually tree branches; held the film up to the window to get a picture and forgot about the tree outside :). The dashed lines are estimating where the hoof will end up once everything gets trimmed out the rest of the way. Just takes time.
In this foot, you can see the tree in the heel :). The white spot towards the bottom is an abcess the vet had just opened up to drain. This x-ray is not as accurate as he wasn't standing on this leg (sore from the abcess). Vet says abcesses were to be expected with the process of bringing his feet back into shape. Knock on wood, that was the only abcess we've had to deal with so far. Many thanks to our vets, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Mehringer, as well as John and the rest of the staff; you're awesome!
Late spring; mostly finished shedding.
I love his movement...
Here's another video of him running with the whole gang. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J5FnxTFBDek
Justin & Tanner, together as usual. I'm really going to hate breaking these two up.
Midsummer...
Strreeeeeeetch....
Legs are really straightening! A thousand thanks to our farrier, Steve; he's done an amazing job.
Early August, and we've finally got those ribs covered enough to suit me. We've had to be very careful about putting weight on him and go very slowly, but he's looking great!
As usual, more concerned with the good yard grass to worry about anything else. Put the old pony saddle on him (just cinched enough to keep it on, no pressure) and walked him down the street a little ways, no problems. Just two more years until we might be able to ride (will have the vet check his knees/etc. during his 3rd summer and see what he says)...grow, little guy, grow!
Justin's mom, Fancy, at one year of age.
Pretty blonde eyelashes :)
