I found some interesting info on trimming a foal's hooves (will link it later) and this past weekend, Her Highness also got her first trim.  She's still growing like crazy and is starting to shed her baby-fuzz; I think she may be Tyla's color but with a LOT more roaning.  We'll have to wait and see, I guess.  Here's the femme at the usual pace:

And as usual, if something is going on in her pasture, she has to be RIGHT there making sure there are no shenanigans:

While we had Doc and Steve both here for the donkey drama, we had Tyla sedated so we could do her feet, as well.  We had to be very careful to lay her down in a way that wouldn't stress her bad leg but thanks to Doc, Steve, and Scott, we were able to do so with a minimum of fuss.  Tyla's trotting about now on blessedly shorter hooves.  We will have to come up with some sort of sling for next time, to make it easier on both her and Steve.

And you can see Miss Macy's growing like a weed!  She was rather confused at mama laying down, but she handled it well.

The adorable princess is now too large to run under mama's belly :).  More info later; for now, enjoy the Royal Family:

Can you believe it's been a week already?  This girl is growing so fast!  And she's a bucking, kicking machine, too.  And surprise, little miss in-to-everything already had a minor injury.  Turns out she thought she could climb the non-climb woven wire horse-fence and ended up getting a let caught; luckily Shannon and family noticed her and cut her free.  Skinned her little leg a bit but no blood, and there has been no heat or swelling in the joints; nonetheless, Nate is now charged with taking all of that wire that's on the corral fence (originally used to keep the ducks out of the yard) down and putting up an extra rail since Miss Macy likes to squish out between the boards.  She's a real pistol!

And that Tyla is such a protective mama.  Not really around people, but if the boys so much as look at Miss Macy when she bounces within 10 feet of the fence, Tyla's on them like white on rice.  Tyla's getting around so much better, too.  Still a couple more weeks to go until we can get her feet trimmed.  I'm hopeful that with those long toes gone, she might be able to be adopted out and be turned out with other horses (albeit slow ones).

While she does have both of mama's blue eyes, looks like just her right one will have the black 'eyeliner' like Tyla.  Which does make her face look a little lopsided, :).

So, here's one more shot of the Princess on her birthday, and then....

The End(s)

Her Highness got to wear her first halter for a few minutes last night; she wasn't real happy about it, but she handled it okay :).

It sure didn't slow her down any....

She's Here! 08/18/2009

Introducing....Macy!!!

Picture
Tyla didn't show any signs Saturday night so I took the evening off of Baby Watch and slept in...until Nathan runs in Sunday morning hollering 'It's Here!!!  It's Here!!!'!!!  I run out in my jammies to find these damp girls looking back at me.
Picture
They both seemed up and normal, so I went to the call list and the parade of visitors began.  As I was helping baby find where to nurse I threw my back out, so tons of thanks to Cindy and Leslie for cleaning out the stall, and to Matt & Alison for bringing over supplies.

It was a very, very hot day and she was having some trouble nursing and such so Doc Mehringer came out and gave her an IV and some shots, but she's doing ever-so-much better now.  And that Tyla is moving so much easier too!  She's going to have trouble keeping up with this one, though; Macy's going to be an independent little handful.

Look at the little heart on her cheek!!!

The following were taken on her second evening...this girl hardly ever stands still!

STILL WAITING... and she's getting bigger every day.  She looks even bigger in person.  Still no milk, either.  But otherwise she's looking good!  She's thoroughly enjoying being spoiled and is getting over her fear of men; she no longer runs when Nate enters the barn.  Back to baby-watch, I guess...
Waiting....waiting....waiting....

STILL no baby... 07/13/2009

...and the poor girl is just as uncomfortable as can be.  Ally, I think she's waiting for you to get back... :)

Ally, she's making me crazy!  :)  I thought she was in labor (breathing hard, laying like in the picture below, then laying flat, then kicking her legs and rolling back up on her belly again, looking ticked off, looking at her belly, not eating, and 'mommy-part' stuff) until 3AM, then she just stood up and decided it wasn't happening.  Shook the straw off and started eating.  What the heck???  :)  Today's Tuesday and I have to leave Wednesday!!!  So anyway, since I promised pictures, here she was at the start of the evening:
Picture

I was worried about wrapping her tail too tight and evidently I wrapped it too loose 'cause it slipped a bit.  So anyway, we're still on watch; I'm going to make Nate help tonight because I can't do two nights in a row with no sleep :)

It's 11:30 PM and I'm pretty sure we'll have a baby by 2AM!!!!  She seems (to my untrained eye, at least) to be progressing pretty fast and I've got to get back out there and check on her.  A sleepless night, for sure!  Check back tomorrow morning, I'll upload pics as soon as I get to work!
